Violence in films over the years

Many films feature violence or have violent situations in them. A study says that gun violence has tripled in the last 30 years and gun violence and has become a trend in many PG-13 movies. Movies like Inception, Skyfall and even superhero movies like The Dark Knight Rises show many scenes where the main characters engage in gun fights. In the hit movie, The Hunger Games, boys and girls ages 12-18 fight to the death in an annual televised event.

Violence is not a new concept in movies, Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver was a very violent movie about a mentally unstable taxi driver. The movie was ranked as one of 25 Most Dangerous Movies Ever Made by Premiere Magazine. The movie inspired John Hinckley to plot to assassinated Ronald Reagan just to impress actress Jodi Foster.

The Godfather trilogy is considered one of the best series in cinema history. The movies follow the fictional mafia family, the Coleone's. A landmark of violence in film history comes from the first Godfather film when Al Pacino's character Michael Corleone asks, "Where does it say you can't kill a cop?"

''I have no problem with screen violence at all.'' - Quentin Tarantino

Tarantino's films are infamous for their violent content. Since the release of his first full length movie, Reservior Dogs, his films have been getting more and more violent. His newest film Django: Unchained included the usual over the top blood splattering everywhere and it also includes people whipping slaves. Quentin Tarantino doesn't like being ask about the violence in his films because it is almost always he is being asked the same questions about why he makes his movies so violent. His answer is because he enjoys to see violence on the big screen because it's not real, it's a fantasy.

Personally, I agree with Tarantino. Movies are meant to entertain and take our minds off our problems for a while. If somebody is influenced by a movie to commit something bad it is not the movie's or the people who made the movie's fault, people like that have mental problems and they need help and supervision. I am a fan of Tarantino's films and other violent movies because they are fun to watch.
